PCBasic provides comprehensive one-stop PCBA services, including PCB fabrication, electronic component procurement, and SMT/THT assembly. Based on extensive project experience, components procured directly by PCBasic generally offer better control over quality, lead time stability, and overall production coordination. For this reason, centralized component sourcing by PCBasic is our long-standing recommended approach.
Please note that this arrangement is not applicable to most projects and should be considered a supplementary solution only when standard procurement methods cannot effectively address the requirement.
In certain exceptional cases—such as when specific components are difficult to source through normal channels, have lead times significantly exceeding standard ranges, or when a project requires strictly specified part numbers—PCBasic may accept consigned components (customer-supplied components) for assembly.
The use of consigned components introduces variables that are difficult to control in advance. Once such uncertainties arise, they may directly affect production scheduling, coordination efficiency, and delivery reliability. Based on past project experience, consignment-based assembly typically involves higher communication overhead and a greater likelihood of production adjustments. As a result, it is not recommended as a preferred sourcing model.
For consigned components supplied by customers, PCBasic is unable to fully verify the original sourcing channels, storage conditions, or handling during transportation. Accordingly, PCBasic cannot guarantee that such components are brand-new, original, or sourced from authorized manufacturers.
In actual production scenarios, issues associated with consigned components have included counterfeit parts, refurbished or previously used components, lead oxidation, moisture exposure, electrostatic discharge (ESD) damage, and packaging formats that do not meet automated assembly requirements.
All logistics arrangements related to consigned components—including shipping, customs duties, and customs clearance—must be handled entirely by the customer. If delays, additional costs, customs holds, or returns occur due to incomplete documentation, inaccurate declarations, or procedural issues, PCBasic is unable to intervene or assume responsibility for any resulting impact.
Before choosing to proceed with consigned components, customers are encouraged to evaluate alternative options. These may include assessing the feasibility of using parameter-equivalent substitute components or allowing PCBasic to leverage its established supply chain to identify reliable sourcing solutions.
Even if a component cannot be matched through the online quotation system, PCBasic’s procurement team can conduct a manual search and, in most cases, provide feedback within one to two business days.
If only a limited number of components are unavailable, customers may also consider designating these items as DNP (Do Not Populate), with subsequent installation completed independently or through local resources.
When the number of consigned component types exceeds five (i.e., more than five BOM line items), a consignment handling fee will apply. The applicable fee can be confirmed in advance by contacting customer service at js@pcbasic.com. This fee covers incoming inspection, inventory management, and additional coordination effort associated with consigned materials.
If a customer decides to proceed with consigned components after careful evaluation, the consignment list must be confirmed with the assigned account manager or customer service team prior to order placement. All relevant items should be clearly marked as consigned in the BOM file. Upon confirmation, PCBasic will provide the designated IQC receiving address.
Shipments should include sufficient spare quantities, with part numbers and quantities clearly labeled on the outer packaging. Appropriate moisture protection, anti-static measures, and physical protection must be applied. After shipment, the tracking number should be provided promptly for identification and follow-up purposes.
All shipping costs, customs duties, and customs clearance risks associated with consigned components are borne solely by the customer. PCBasic is not responsible for delays, damage, or loss occurring during transportation, nor for production delays resulting from issues related to consigned components.
To reduce quality risks associated with long-term storage, consigned components should generally be used within six months. Excess components are typically not returned due to customs clearance and warehouse management considerations. Customers with long-term usage plans are advised to communicate such requirements in advance with their account manager.
In general, consigned components are better suited for customers with sufficient experience in supply chain management, logistics coordination, and customs procedures. If compliance with sourcing, packaging, and documentation requirements cannot be ensured, PCBasic’s standard procurement services remain the more stable and efficient option. Selection of consignment indicates acknowledgment and acceptance of the responsibilities and risks outlined above.
